Joanne’s Journey: From Training to Volunteer of the Year

Joanne currently volunteers at a local seniors home performing tasks independently in the dining room and kitchen.  Initially she was supported by agency staff from Moncton Employment & Training Services (METS) and after a couple of weeks of training she became part of the team at the seniors home.  It was then, in agreement with the senior’s home staff, that Joanne could continue volunteering without METS support on site.   The skills she uses in her volunteering she initially learnt in the agency based social enterprise at METS during which time she worked in a catering business learning skills in food prep, setup and serving roles.   Joanne takes a lot of pride in the work she does with seniors and her success has not gone unnoticed.  In 2025 the seniors home nominated her for a Volunteer of the Year award which she won and accepted at the Recognizing Riverview event.
